Le Docteur Festus (Rodolphe Töpffer, lithographed 1840): the absent-minded Doctor Festus sets out on a “voyage d’instruction” on a mule and is swept into an absurd chain of misadventures, mistaken for a ghost, a comet and worse. One of the founding works of the comic strip, by the Genevan pioneer of the “histoire en estampes”. Original 1840 album (Cherbuliez, Paris), French. Suitable for all ages. Public domain.
