ComicStation pays you on two revenue lines. A sponsor pays for the translation — you pay nothing to translate.
| Revenue line | You receive | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Original language (paid original-language reading, not open yet) | 70% | ComicStation keeps 30%. This is not built yet. |
| Translations (~70 languages) | 49% of each later read | Two tiers. Tier 1: author 70% / sponsor 30%. Tier 2: ComicStation takes 30% of the author's part and 10% of the sponsor's part. Left: author 49%, sponsor 27%, ComicStation 24%. Translation cost: 0. |
Illustrative example (not a guarantee) — one 20-page chapter, already translated because a sponsor paid:
Actual amounts depend on the price at unlock time, refunds, payment fees and real readership. The formula is in Clause 8 and Schedule B of the Creator Agreement.
Original language (not open yet): you receive 70%. Translations into ~70 languages: free to translate, and after both tiers you receive 49% of each later read.
Because a translation is split in two tiers. Tier 1: you (the author) 70% and the sponsor 30% — the sponsor paid to unlock the first translation. Tier 2: ComicStation takes 30% of your part and 10% of the sponsor's part. Left: you 49%, the sponsor 27%, ComicStation 24%. You pay nothing to translate. On original-language revenue (not open yet) there is no sponsor, so you receive 70%.
No. A sponsor pays to unlock a chapter’s translation into a language. You are not charged coins to translate. After a translation exists, later readers pay to read it; your share is 49% of that revenue, after both tiers.
Many platforms advertise a higher percentage on one language, but creators usually handle (and pay for) translations themselves if they want to go international. ComicStation keeps about 24% of translation revenue (at or below what many platforms keep), while translating for free into about 70 languages and paying you 49% per language, which stacks. When paid original-language reading is offered, you receive 70% — in line with high original-language splits. A fair comparison must count translation cost and number of languages, not a single percentage alone.
