Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: Halloween Special #1 Review
This Halloween anthology expands the twisted world of Patrick Horvath's woodland characters through a collection of unsettling short stories. Various creators contribute unique tales that blend deceptive, storybook-style visuals with dark, violent themes.
The special uses a campfire framing device to connect diverse horror narratives that range from psychological tension to gruesome survival stories. While the anthology format occasionally suffers from rushed pacing, the distinct artistic styles and consistent tone maintain a compelling, macabre atmosphere. Each contributor successfully balances the series' signature cute aesthetic with genuinely disturbing character behavior. It serves as a strong, atmospheric addition to the franchise that leans into its own dark, secret-filled community.
