Closure of Illegal Webtoon Sites Leads to Surge in Legitimate Revenue
The shutdown of major illegal distribution sites like Newtoki has led to a significant increase in legitimate content consumption and revenue for creators. Naver Webtoon reported a 7.9-fold increase in paid users for affected titles following the closures.

Naver Webtoon utilized its proprietary 'Toon Radar' technology to track and block illegal distribution, which effectively encouraged users to return to official platforms. This shift resulted in a 29.7% increase in revenue for impacted works within the first three weeks of the site closures. The company continues to collaborate with international law enforcement to dismantle global copyright infringement operations. These efforts aim to protect creator rights and ensure the long-term sustainability of the digital content ecosystem.
