Lanterns Finale Leaves Open the Comic Book Story of Hal Jordan’s Return
The finale of the HBO series Lanterns concludes with Hal Jordan remaining dead, yet the narrative leaves a potential path for his return inspired by DC comic lore. The show could adapt the character's comic book arc where he becomes the Spectre, the living manifestation of God's wrath.

While the series finale confirms Hal Jordan's death and the dissipation of his digital backup, his potential resurrection mirrors his comic book history following the Emerald Twilight storyline. In the comics, Hal redeemed himself by sacrificing his life to reignite the sun, subsequently becoming the new host for the Spectre. This transition allowed him to seek atonement for his past actions as Parallax while maintaining his heroic spirit. Given the presence of the Justice Society in the DCU, the show could potentially reintroduce Kyle Chandler's character as this divine entity.
