Marvel Comics has launched the Midnight Universe imprint, featuring a dark, Lovecraftian horror take on the Fantastic Four. This new continuity significantly alters the origin of the rivalry between Mr. Fantastic and Doctor Doom.
In this version, Reed Richards is depicted as a reckless scientist whose negligence leads to the tragic disfigurement of his assistant, Victor von Doom. Unlike the traditional rivalry fueled by ego, this version is driven by Victor's genuine trauma and a quest for vengeance. The story further complicates matters by introducing Cynthia von Doom as a resurrected, armored figure working alongside her son. This shift transforms the classic feud into a much darker and more personal conflict.
