James Tynion IV and Kiersten White expand the Slaughterverse into prose with a new standalone novel featuring Erica Slaughter. The story explores a prequel mystery in Badwater, Idaho, through multiple character perspectives.
The novel successfully transitions the horror elements of the comic series into a written format by utilizing multiple viewpoints to flesh out the town of Badwater. It offers a deeper look into Erica Slaughter's internal motivations and her unique connection to the children she protects. While the narrative follows a familiar monster-hunting structure, the prose format allows for a more nuanced exploration of Erica's psyche. The book effectively balances the established lore of the Order of St. George with a fresh, character-driven approach.
