Jeff Smith's Bone is a celebrated fantasy comic series that follows three cousins—Fone, Phoney, and Smiley Bone—after they are exiled from their hometown. Their journey leads them into a mysterious valley threatened by Rat Creatures and an ancient evil. Over its 55-issue run, the story shifts from lighthearted comedy to a serious, genre-defying epic. Critics have praised the series for its clear, expressive black-and-white art and its sophisticated, multi-layered narrative. Inspired by works like Huckleberry Finn and The Lord of the Rings, Smith crafted a hero's journey that balances humor with a darker subtext regarding power. The series has earned numerous accolades, including multiple Eisner and Harvey Awards, and remains a landmark in the medium.
