The Ledger Awards serve to recognize excellence within the Australian comic art and publishing industry. Established in 2004 as an independent, non-profit initiative, these awards honor the legacy of cartoonist Peter Ledger. Throughout their history, the awards have evolved from a public voting system to incorporating a professional judges panel to determine winners across various creative categories. While the ceremony was initially held annually around Australia Day, recent events have taken place at the State Library of Victoria, often coinciding with the Melbourne Supanova convention. After a hiatus between 2008 and 2013, the awards returned in 2014 with support from the Supanova Pop Culture Expo. The program continues to highlight the achievements of local creators, publishers, and retailers both domestically and internationally.
