6000 Not Out: A Chat with Commando writer Ferg Handley
To celebrate the 6000th issue of Commando, writer Ferg Handley discusses his work on issue 6001, which features a crossover between his own creation, Captain Jimmy Ramsey, and the classic character Sergeant Matt Braddock. The interview explores the origins of these characters and Handley's approach to reviving legacy comic figures.
Handley explains that the idea for the crossover came from editor Kate McAuliffe, who wanted to pair heritage characters with modern Commando regulars. The writer also reflects on his process for researching and rebooting the Matt Braddock series to fit the current Commando format. He notes that he treats his stories as historical adaptations rather than direct continuations of older strips. Handley concludes by expressing interest in potentially reviving other classic characters like Jonah Jones for future single-issue stories.
