Dick Tracy: 95 Years of Crime-Busting Adventure and Vile Villains
The iconic comic strip Dick Tracy celebrates its 95th anniversary, marking nearly a century of crime-fighting history. The strip first debuted in newspapers in October 1931.

Created by Chester Gould, the series was inspired by the rampant mob activity in Chicago during the Great Depression. Gould spent a decade pitching ideas to the Chicago Tribune before Joseph Patterson finally accepted the concept. Patterson provided crucial editorial guidance, including renaming the strip and shaping its gritty, realistic depiction of violence. The series became an immediate success, cementing its place in comic history.
