Les Dissidents
Derf Backderf returns with a new graphic novel exploring the history of the anti-war magazine The Masses during World War I. The story follows a fictional young artist navigating a period of intense government censorship and political repression in America.

Through 344 pages, the author documents the struggle of political cartoonists who challenged President Woodrow Wilson's pro-war stance. The narrative blends historical figures with the fictional character Joe Hertle to illustrate the dangers of the Sedition Act. Backderf incorporates original period illustrations to highlight the ongoing importance of freedom of expression. This work is published in France by Çà et Là and translated by Fanny Soubiran.
