The War
Garth Ennis and Becky Cloonan collaborate on a grim, earnest exploration of nuclear anxiety and human suffering. The comic serves as a visceral, albeit flawed, examination of how ordinary people react to global catastrophe.

While the creative team delivers a powerful and technically proficient depiction of pain, the narrative struggles to provide sufficient character depth to match its heavy subject matter. Becky Cloonan’s art effectively captures the tragedy of the characters, yet the story ultimately feels like a hollow exercise in misery. Despite its raw intensity, the series fails to transcend its premise to become the profound statement it aspires to be. The final execution leaves the reader with a sense of detachment rather than the intended emotional impact.
