The 18th International Comics Festival of Algiers concluded on October 5th, following a five-day event at the Riadh El Feth esplanade. This edition, themed around graphic novels, featured participants from thirteen countries. The international competition saw French author Émilien Cousin take first place, while Cameroonian artist Mezensi Nipanko and Tunisian creator Ahmed Touj secured second and third positions respectively. The festival also highlighted the resilience of the Congolese comics scene, with Jérémie Nsingi sharing how local creators have adapted to market challenges by hosting school-based events and exploring self-publishing. Awards were also presented to Algerian talents in various age categories, alongside honors in manga and cosplay competitions. As the industry continues to evolve globally, how do you think local creators can best reach new audiences in regions with limited distribution infrastructure?
