The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards recognize creative excellence within the American comic book field. Often compared to the Academy Awards, these honors were established in 1988 following the end of the Kirby Awards. A jury of industry experts selects nominees, while comic professionals cast the final votes. Currently, the program features 32 distinct categories for works released during the prior year. Since 1991, the annual ceremony has taken place at San Diego Comic-Con. The awards are named for Will Eisner, a notable cartoonist who actively supported the event for many years. Today, the historical archives of the organization are maintained at the James Branch Cabell Library in Virginia. With so many different categories available for recognition, which specific genre or role in the comic industry do you believe deserves the most attention from these awards?
