Anansi, or Ananse, is a central figure in Akan folklore from southern Ghana. Often depicted as a spider, he is a trickster known for his wit, cunning, and ability to outsmart more powerful opponents. These stories were spread to the Americas during the Atlantic slave trade, where they became symbols of resistance and survival for enslaved people. Anansi is a complex character, serving as both a protagonist and antagonist, and his tales have evolved across different cultures and regions. He is often associated with wisdom and is even considered the owner of all stories in some traditions. His family members and various names reflect the diversity of these folktales. Given his rich history as a trickster who uses cleverness to overcome challenges, how do you think his role as a hero translates into modern comic book storytelling?
