Jonathan Hickman reveals Marvel once considered replacing X-Men with vampires
Writer Jonathan Hickman shared that Marvel once explored using vampires as a substitute for the X-Men to navigate licensing issues with 20th Century Fox. This creative brainstorming occurred during a period when the publisher was actively attempting to minimize the presence of mutants in the Marvel Universe.

During an appearance on the Battle of the Atom podcast, Hickman recalled how the company looked for ways to circumvent Fox's control over mutant film rights. He clarified that this was not an official mandate from management but rather a reflection of the internal creative climate at the time. Hickman is currently revisiting the intersection of mutants and vampires with the upcoming launch of Midnight X-Men.
